With as busy as we keep as self-employed entrepreneurs and parents to two young children, Rob and I always look forward to the Inlander’s Annual Manual, since we need all the help we can get in staying connected to what’s happening in area eats and entertainment. It is the appropriately self-proclaimed “Insider’s Guide to the Inland Northwest,” featuring full page spreads devoted to the area’s best ice cream, burgers, and sushi… and if you care about more than food, it also dives into shopping, recreation, arts, education, and nightlife (Ha! Haven’t had one of those in years!)

So you can imagine my excitement when Mallory brought to my attention that the cover image for this year’s manual would be selected for the first time ever from a contest of submissions. The deadline was approaching, the contest required a brief essay with each submission (why you enjoy living here), and I wasn’t sure our week could take adding one more thing to its list of things needing completion. But ultimately, I am so glad I carved out the time to select an image and submit, because from the hundreds of submissions it turns out that we won! The image features locals Sara and Khalid Beznaiguia enjoying the sunset at High Bridge Park.

Sweet, right? Out and about downtown today, I had the joy of running into stacks of these all around! That is the great thing about Inlander publications… they are creative, essential, free, and available at literally thousands of locations around the region.

In addition to the cover image, Annual Manual editor Tamara McGregor wrote a blurb about Rogue Heart and the cover image, and what we love about the Pacific Northwest. Be sure to grab a copy while you can, or check out the digital magazine here.

As an added bonus, when I reported to Inlander HQ to pick up the box of magazines and prize money, I found an awesome gift basket was awaiting as well! Anyone who knows me knows that I value free T-shirts quite highly, and this basket had two of them… along with excellent reading material and some Perry Street Brewing Co. goodies. Feeling quite lucky today, indeed!

Thanks to the Inlander staff for selecting our image for the cover, and for putting together such an incredible resource for our region. We plan on putting ours to good use this year as much as we can!
