A Home to Love in 2021

with SNAP Financial Access

March 1, 2021 by Jazmine

With every hardship that 2020 had brought us, the difficulty surrounding buying or keeping a home was one most people weren’t prepared for. As the pandemic continues, so do bills and mortgages. With the US hitting roughly 20 million jobs lost at the height of the pandemic, it made sense that loss would be felt in the housing sector as well. With the eviction moratorium set to end on March 31st in Washington State, many people are left wondering how to keep their homes or move forward with buying one with such an unsure job market.

Rogue Heart has helped share the offerings and client successes of SNAP Financial Access off-and-on since 2018, and we continue to be impressed by the ways they identify gaps and help our local community in so many ways. With the current state of the world, foreclosure prevention and creative support for first-time home buyers  is needed more than ever to keep people financially stable and in their homes.  So, when given the chance to collaborate with Blue Tiger Studio to raise the awareness around their free services and special financing options, we were thrilled. The main phrasing they wanted to use for this new campaign was “Buy the Home you Love” – and to get a video out in time for Valentine’s Day. And that my friends, is a message Rogue Heart can get behind: love.

We were lucky enough that one of our own (in this case, your humble blog writer) had questions about buying a home. This presented a promising opportunity for how to support the informational and visual needs of the video, while staying COVID compliant in filming and authentic in an interaction with SNAP services.  We opted for shooting the piece at my home through the true-to-form experience of a zoom meeting with one of SNAP’s Housing Counselors, Galina.  At the end of the day, we were able to capture an authentic interaction, learn more about the resources available, and show that even a pandemic can’t stop our community from lifting each other up. Getting further into my home buying journey, I’m looking forward to taking an educational course with SNAP Financial Access so I can confidently enter the market. Which is deeply important for me as a single mom new to the experience.
