CCS Foundation & Project Feed CCS

Share the #GivingTuesday love & support Spokane students

November 27, 2019 by Megan

We often joke at Rogue Heart that food is our “love language.”

Snacks. Celebratory donuts. Taco Tuesday. Chocolate breaks. Coffee meetings. Traveling Supper Club. We like food, and we like it even more when we are sharing it.

Back in April, we had the opportunity to attend SipSwirl&Savor, an awesome annual fundraising event where we were treated to a gourmet 5-course meal, amazing wine, impressive auction items – all alongside attendees enthused to support CCS Foundation and their scholarship program for community college students. The food stands out the most in my memories… what a delightful treat to be eating more adventurously than usual, appreciating the creativity of the cuisine, and feeling fuller afterward than anyone in a cocktail dress should push herself to feel. It was amazing. And it was all prepared by students, staff & alumni of Spokane Community College’s Inland Northwest Culinary Academy.

The icing on the cake was getting to watch the audience react to the premier screening of Extraordinary, a video we created showcasing real student stories and the impact CCS Foundation scholarships can have.

However, it was a stark contrast for the night… indulging in rich wines and appetizers, while learning that the Cup O’Noodles at the CCS food pantry may be the only meal of the day for a hardworking GED student. The Adult Education Center is just down the road from us on North Monroe… and I am excited to say that they’ve already made great strides this summer to expand their food pantry programs on their many campuses, with ambitions to do more.

Which brings us to Giving Tuesday.

#GivingTuesday was conceptualized as a Global Generosity Movement, quite simply a day that encourages people to do good. This year, CCS Foundation is launching the Project Feed CCS campaign on December 3rd, and we are encouraging everyone to follow their channels and take part in raising funds to end student hunger in the Spokane region. This will help allow those in our community colleges to focus on furthering their education and improving their lives rather than worrying over the source of their next meal.

Facebook will match $7 million in donations on Dec 3 first come, first serve, beginning at 8AM… Eastern time. Which means if we want to have a chance at earning matching dollars for the nonprofits in our community, we should set our alarms and donate nice and early (but not earlier than 5AM). You can support my Facebook fundraiser, or start your own fundraiser challenge on their GiveCampus donation page! Whatever you do… just consider the joy of jumping into global generosity, while making an impact here at home. Sounds like a perfect kickoff to the holiday season to me.

We talk more about all this in our latest vlog, which features the video Extraordinary. We hope you connect with the students and their ambitions as much as we did, and feel pulled to cheer them on with a donation to CCS Foundation on December 3rd for Giving Tuesday. In the meantime, have a wonderful food-filled Thanksgiving!
