Being a creative individual typically means choosing between doing something you’re passionate about or doing something that makes you money. When I applied at Rogue Heart Media I knew I was taking a leap of faith by attempting to do both of these things at once. Here was a company that held similar values to my own and uplifted the community I love, of course, I had to take a shot and apply. It felt too good to be true when they called back offering a position, but apparently, I do okay in interviews and no one was turned off by my frequent finger gunning.

I don’t know what I was expecting for my first day on the job, luckily I didn’t have too much time to contemplate about it, because I was thrown into the mix quickly. Little did I know I was stepping into a rather busy time of year for Rogue Heart Media. With the end of season fundraisers, galas, and award shows all going virtual due to the pandemic things were on a time crunch.

One of the first pieces I worked on was a narrative story celebrating the life and accomplishments of a beloved local artist who had recently passed away. Respectfully honoring another person’s story wasn’t a task I took lightly and I felt privileged to have gotten the chance at all. This was exactly the type of work I had always wanted to do, tell stories in meaningful and creative ways.

Moving forward I’m excited to work with our community, learn more about the wonderful clients we serve, and make some badass films. I’m thrilled that I can work for a company that supports local nonprofits, businesses, and organizations. A place where creativity and communication are valued. But above all, Rogue Heart Media takes the time to share each story they tell with respect and care, and as nonfiction filmmakers what else could we hope to achieve?
