Introducing Janessa

#TeamRogueHeart welcomes another awesome staff member

January 10, 2022 by Janessa

I like to say that things are “so Spokane,” and the way I came to Rogue Heart Media is no different. To me, this means the magical blend of serendipity, coincidence (if there is such a thing), community, and connection that leads to some wonderful, unique moments in this town. From running into an old acquaintance at the grocery store to realizing you’re only two degrees of separation from someone you thought was a stranger, these experiences are everywhere in our town, and I love it.

I was graduating from the Photography program at Spokane Falls Community College when I met Megan. Throughout the prior year, my classmates and I had poured our hearts and souls into our portfolios, and Megan was part of a panel of industry professionals who’d come to review our final displays of work. Because this is Spokane (see above) we naturally discovered we shared a mutual friend and have stayed in touch ever since.

It’s funny how life brings people together at moments that seem like happenstance but feel like they were meant to be, and that’s exactly how I landed at Rogue Heart. Life gave me an opportunity, and I jumped in with arms (and heart) wide open. My career background is varied – after college, I spent two years as the lead assistant to a commercial photographer, but most of my professional experience is in administrative work. It is this skill set in particular that I bring to the team at Rogue Heart.

Although I started in the thick of the holiday season, I hadn’t been feeling very merry or bright in 2021. That quickly changed when my inaugural assignment at Rogue Heart was to help organize and coordinate our group effort to purchase gifts for a family of four that we had volunteered to pair with through Transitions.

While I had already known that Rogue Heart embraced a giving spirit, I was floored to experience the depth of kindness firsthand, and right from the get-go. The team made me feel warmly welcomed, and we worked collaboratively to ensure the local family had abundant presents under the tree for Christmas–an immensely rewarding experience.

2021 was a year full of challenges and change for me, and I’m thrilled that I can count joining #TeamRogueHeart among those adventures.

Janessa (she/her) is a Spokane native, born and raised. She graduated from SFCC in 2017, is a fan of the Oxford comma, an alliteration aficionado, and recently discovered a love of guacamole. When she’s not supporting Rogue Heart with her admin prowess, she can be found behind the lens of her camera, crocheting, chasing after her two little boys, or brewing a nice cup of tea.
